We’ve Got Some News To Share
We’re growing! Our Fredericksburg, VA branch grand opening celebration is on October 31st! You might have caught on that this event comes shortly after International Credit Union Day (ICU DAY.)
Opening our new location at such an important time is no coincidence, and I will talk more about that a little bit later. For now, you probably have questions, like why would we open a new branch in the middle of a pandemic? How does ICU Day play into this? Will the credit union be closing other locations?
For answers to all of those questions, keep reading.
Why are we opening a new branch in the COVID-era?
In short, we can’t let a pandemic stop us. We were founded in 1935, which means we have seen our fair share of crises. Although this pandemic is something the likes of which we have never experienced, we WILL get through this. We want our members to know that after 85 years together, we have built a solid foundation. Our members can rely on us to be there for them during an economic downturn, throughout social unrest, and yes, even during a pandemic.
What’s all this talk about ICU Day?
We are still feeling warm and fuzzy after celebrating International Credit Union Day on October 15th. Believe it or not, many people still don’t know what a credit union is, and how it differs from a bank. Not to point fingers, but this is exactly why ICU Day is so important to our industry. It is a time to form partnerships, help our communities, and spread awareness. While the actual day happens once a year, we try to embody this spirit year-round.
Credit unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives founded on the principle of, “People helping people.” This means that we have a responsibility to act as good stewards to our members’ finances. As such, we offer the most favorable loan rates, higher savings dividend rates, and we can be more flexible in making lending decisions.
Part of practicing good stewardship is being available to our members – wherever they are. Our wide range of digital services makes it easy for members across the nation to access their accounts with us; simply put, you don’t have to live close to an InFirst branch to use our credit union. As I mentioned earlier, we have roots in the community. By opening our branch in Fredericksburg, we are becoming even more accessible to InFirst members and extending the message of ICU day into another community. What better way to spread awareness and support is there?
Does this mean other branches are closing?
Nope. :)
